27 July 2013 Until 31 July 2013 Documentation

We have refined the storyboard based on the the feedbacks from our lecturers referring to Freytag's Pyramid. I also helping my group leader to do some adjustments on the project plan before pass up to our lecturers.

In addition, I also start to summarize and compose the data we have collected into infographics and present them in the interactive installation to let audience understand the status of endangered animals easier in shorter time. When summarizing, I have the opportunities to have a deeper understanding about the nature and animals such as animals’ habitat, species, population and how they are harmed by human.

On 31 July 2013, we proposed our new ideas to lecturers and getting new feedbacks from the lecturers. We also start setting up the computers at our IIS slot and get the booked equipments from the school.

24 July 2013 Documentation

Today we need to present our power point slide to our classmates. Before the presentation, as the Content Leader of the group, I checked again our presentation slide to make sure everything we want to show is in proper order.

After our presentation, I have learnt many things from our lecturers' feedbacks. I learnt that when presenting ideas to the clients, I need to show everything including our storyline. From the lecturers' feedbacks, I also realize that the storyline I created is not dramatic enough to show the awareness and emotion. They suggested me to refer to Freytag's Pyramid when creating our storyline to create more awareness to enhance the audiences feeling and emotion.

As a Content Leader, I also need to think of why use kayaking as our progressing method. After doing some researches, I realize that kayaking is better than other travel methods such as cycling and driving because when kayaking can only be done on river and thus easy to navigate and follow the flow of river to proceed in single direction only. Whereas if using cycling or driving, audience may feel confuse as there are no proper roads in jungle as a sign for navigation.

Last but not least, my lecturers also recommend me to start preparing questions to be asked during Alpha test and Beta test. Some usual questions such as does users understand the installation, does the user interface clear and does the instruction clear are a must to get useful feedbacks from the users.

18 July 2013 Until 23 July 2013 Documentation

With the feedback and suggestions from our lecturers, we start to amend our project plan proposal. We also started to do the presentation slides that will be shown to our peers on 24 July 2013. We do the objective, story plot, concept, hypothesis, problems identified and solution proposed together and on the same time I finding more researches and information to support the group.

As we have confirmed our forest exploring concept, I searched for more researches about forest exploration in first person view to help my group mates have a better views of first person angle when she is doing the sketches. Here are some examples that I have found:

In addition, as the animals in our installation will be display in silhouette forms, I also search for some animals silhouette for my group mates as references:

Last but not least, I also help my Design Leader to trace sketches into digital artwork:

17 July 2013 Documentation

Today, we have shown our project plan proposal prototype to our lecturers and we had received useful feedback from them.

From their feedback, I learnt that an interactive installation is a summarize and quick view of ourselves to the outer world. I also learnt that when you have a content theme, you must have the good context to support it. They also taught me that planning is a good practice in order to produce something that can create comfort, lead the imagination, shift the feeling and satisfy the critical minds.

In addition, rather than targeting the world, my lecturers advised me to just focus on Malaysia WWF which only has very few installations done by them. They have suggested some outreach programs and what option available to our group interactive installation.

Furthermore, they also brief me on time management such as installation cost how many time and I should spend how many hours on the project. For the proposal, they suggested me to put in image of polluted environment and endangered animals into the proposal. They also advised me that if possible, try to include emotion into our installation by using sound effects.

10 July 2013 Until 16 July 2013 Documentation

We have done some discussion during our study break. Our group decided to create an interactive installation that is triggered by kayak. Our primary idea is create a virtual kayaking experience that related to WWF awareness. We planned to let audiences explore and experience the polluted environment and discover issues that had destroy the environment and animals.

As I am the Content Leader of the group, I start searching for information about WWF such as what are they doing and what they want to achieve. On the same time, I also start collecting information about nature, environments and animals. From the researches I have done, I have learned that our environment is currently being polluted and destroyed because of different human activities such as deforestation, commercial plantation, factories road construction and illegal animals hunting. I also discovered that there are some associations such as World Wildlife Fun (WWF) is currently put in their efforts in saving the nature and animals and there are some actions that we can do to support them.

In order to have some samples for my group as references, I have also searched for different art installation about environment. Here are some examples of researches I have found:
As our group decided to make a progressing front movement jungle exploring animation that triggered by kayaking, I also try to search for some samples of jungle exploring in first person view as the references for my group:

As we need to show the project plan proposal prototype to our lecturers on 17 July 2013, we have put in all of our efforts in creating the proposal. When doing the proposal, I have learnt how to do a Gantt chart from my team leader to schedule my times in carry out different tasks. We planned that the content of our interactive installation are animals' silhouettes made from rubbish. The story flow of our content is like this:
  • Audience can see animal silhouette at some point of exploration
  • When they move closer, they will find out that the animal silhouette is made by rubbish
  • Audience interact with the rubbish animal statue and the information about how the change of environment destroy the animal habitat and cause the extinction of the animal
  • After the interaction, the rubbish animal statue will move away from the screen horizontally
  • Then, the audience will see some human trying different efforts to save the environment
  • Audience have the option to choose help or not help
  • The exploration end when audience reach a port
